Job Description

The Department of Political Science and Public Policy at St. Mary’s College of Maryland is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Political Science beginning August 2026. Faculty are expected to teach in-person classes supported by methodologies that promote students’ engagement. An interest in attracting and retaining students from underrepresented groups is desirable.

Qualifications include a doctorate in political science or a related field (may be ABD at the time of application if degree completion by August 2026 is certain), college-level teaching experience, a strong desire to teach undergraduates, and a record of, or demonstrated promise of, high-quality intellectual contributions.  The ideal candidate will specialize in International Relations or Comparative Politics. Candidates with experience teaching international or comparative political economy, as well as undergraduate research methods, are preferred.  We particularly encourage applications from scholars whose work focuses on geographic regions outside Latin America, as we aim to complement our department’s existing strengths with diverse global perspectives.

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, with a range from $72,000 - $78,000.

Of these three references, at least one referee should speak to the candidate's disciplinary expertise and at least one should have seen the candidate deliver or design classroom instruction. References will be contacted only for candidates who advance to finalist interviews. Applications are being accepted online at: . Questions may be directed to Antonio Ugues at 240-895-2119.
