THE MISSION:

The mission of the Orange City Police Department is to reduce crime and to protect and serve all citizens with professionalism, honor, integrity and respect. The Department contains various divisions like Patrol, Records, School Resource Officer, Code Enforcement and Investigative Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Responsible for enforcing local, state and federal laws in a fair and impartial manner.
  • Converse with the public and fellow officers to enforce laws and ordinances, patrols assigned areas by checking for unsafe and / or illegal activities.
  • Conduct preliminary and follow up investigations, collects evidence, interview witnesses and prepare reports.
  • Apprehend, search and arrest suspects in compliance with applicable laws and departmental polices.
  • Respond promptly to calls for services, including emergencies, accidents, disturbances and criminal activity.
  • Engage in proactive community policing building trust and positive relationships with residents, businesses and community groups.
  • Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Florida Statute 943.13 describes ten minimum requirements an individual must meet to become employable as a sworn law enforcement officer in the State of Florida. The requirements are:
  • Age : At least 19 years old (18 for correctional officers).
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Education : High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Criminal History : No conviction for any felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement.
  • Physical and Moral Standards: Must pass a physical examination and have a good moral character.
  • Background Investigation : Fingerprints must be processed and on file with the state.
  • Training : Complete a commissionapproved basic recruit training program.
  • Certification : Achieve a passing score on the officer certification examination.
  • Continuing Education : Comply with ongoing training requirements.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

Applicants selected to move through the hiring process will be required to take a written test that includes a spelling module and participate in an oral interview. Upon successful

completion of that segment, an indepth background investigation will be conducted. Once a satisfactory background investigation has been achieved, the candidate will be required to take a voice stress analysis examination and pass a psychological and medical examination that includes a drug screen prior to being eligible for employment as a City of Orange City Police Officer.
