Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Utility Line Locator to join our field operations team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately identifying and marking underground utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, including experience in service technician work, land surveying, and utility locating, along with a solid understanding of construction site procedures. This position offers an engaging opportunity to contribute to infrastructure safety and efficiency while working in dynamic outdoor environments. Duties

  • Locate underground utility lines such as gas, water, electric, and telecommunications using specialized equipment and techniques.
  • Interpret blueprints, maps, and construction drawings to determine the location of underground utilities.
  • Mark utility lines clearly on the ground using spray paint, flags, or stakes to guide excavation crews.
  • Operate field equipment including backhoes, forklifts, and other machinery necessary for site preparation and utility access.
  • Assist with land surveying activities to ensure precise positioning of utility lines relative to property boundaries.
  • Collaborate with construction teams to coordinate safe excavation practices around identified utilities.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify the accuracy of utility markings and document findings thoroughly.
  • Support cabling installation projects by identifying existing underground lines and ensuring proper routing.
  • Maintain detailed records of utility locations, markings, and field observations for project documentation.
  • Follow safety protocols rigorously to prevent damage to utilities and ensure personal safety during field operations.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a service technician or in a related field service role within construction or utilities.
  • Knowledge of land surveying principles and techniques relevant to utility location activities.
  • Prior experience in utility locating using electromagnetic detectors, ground penetrating radar (GPR), or other locating tools.
  • Familiarity with reading blueprints, construction plans, and technical drawings.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery such as backhoes and forklifts safely and efficiently.
  • Experience working on construction sites with an understanding of safety standards and procedures.
  • Competency in cabling installation processes and underground infrastructure management.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members and conveying information clearly.
  • Valid driver’s license; certifications in equipment operation or safety training are a plus.
